In Potamitissa village you can watch and learn the process of Cyprus local cheese - halloumi - making. All halloumi in the Taverna comes from this local source.
In half an hour walking distance from Ambelikos AgroHotel, you can reach the medieval stone-built, arched Diplopotamos Bridge.
The nature in that area is one of a kind. Amazing serenity surrounds you when you reach the confluence of the Ambelikos and Agros rivers, with impressive trees rising from the river's flowing waters underneath the medieval bridge. Enjoy a picnic day, in an ideally relaxing tranquility.
Another good choice is a 15 minute walk from the hotel, towards Potamitissas gorge. On the way, a surprise awaits you in the sight of an 800 year old, standing olive tree. For bird watchers, the surroundings are a paradise of birdsong and you may catch a glimpse of many indigenous and migrating species.
Across from the hotel, a big challenge for advanced hikers is to hike the pine wood forest of Mount Diesis. Reaching the top, the views are breathtaking. Tradition has it, that the Virgin Mary's icon was found there, under a huge rock and carried down in Potamitissa village where a stone church was built in her name.
In Agros village, a short distance from Ambelikos Hotel, you can see the beautiful "valley of roses", where the famous aromatic rosewater of Agros is produced. In the village, you can also find a huge variety of preserved fruits and marmalades, as well as local delicatessen products such as hiromeri, sausages and lountza all made from wine-cured smoked pork.
Also at Agros you can take an undulating two hour+ walk around the contours of the valley, taking in two small chapels and some stunning scenery as well as the local industries. Directions are available from the hotel.
